Why Your Hotel Website Isn't Converting (And the 5 Fixes That Will)

Traffic is rarely the problem. Most hotel websites lose the guest between the home page and the booking button. These are the five leaks we fix first.

Why Your Hotel Website Isn't Converting (And the 5 Fixes That Will)

A direct booking is worth 15–25% more than the same room sold through an OTA. Yet many hotel websites are built as brochures — beautiful, slow and with a "Book Now" button that leads somewhere confusing. Here are the fixes that pay for themselves fastest.

1. Speed on a phone, on a hill

Your guests are researching on mobile, often on patchy networks. Compress images, cut the autoplay video, and test the site on 3G. A page that loads in under three seconds converts roughly twice as well as one that takes six.

2. One clear reason to book direct

Say it on every page: complimentary breakfast, free upgrade when available, flexible cancellation, a welcome drink. The guest must see a tangible benefit before they go back to compare on an OTA.

3. A booking engine that matches the site

If the booking engine looks like a different company, trust drops. Brand it, keep the rate names consistent with the OTAs, and show the total price with taxes up front.

4. Proof above the fold

Your Google rating, TripAdvisor ranking and a single strong guest quote belong near the top of the home page, not buried on a testimonials page.

5. WhatsApp, prominently

In India, a large share of direct bookings still close on WhatsApp. Make the button visible, route it to a trained reservations agent, and track how many enquiries convert.

The website's job is not to impress. It is to remove every reason the guest has to leave.
